So you’ve decided to buy a diamond engagement ring, but do you know what type of diamond you want?

Before you do, it’s important that you understand how to do so.

The 4 C’s of Diamonds

The 4 c’s of diamonds is a recognised worldwide as the method in which we grade diamonds. The four C’s stand for Carat, Clarity, Color and Cut. We use these terms to help rate the rings overall cost.

The cut describes the way in which the stone has been shaped. The cut of a diamond can determine how much light passes through the diamond and also how much brilliance it has. This is used to rate the diamond from either poor to ideal.

Secondly, the weight of the carat is also a measure for determining the price and quality of the engagement ring. Generally, the heavier the diamond the higher the cost.

Clarity is the third measure of diamond engagement rings. Basically, the clarity of a diamond is the measurement of how many flaws are within the diamond. Nearly all diamonds have flaws, however, many of which are invisible to the naked eye.

The final C in the four C’s is color. As surprising as it is to most people, diamonds do have color. Generally the color will be white, or near-colorless with a hint of color. These colors can absorb light, so for maximum brilliance you want a stone with as little much color as possible.

In addition, some diamonds also come in green and red. These are, however, extremely rare and thus, very expensive.

What Type Of Setting?

Even though you may have decided upon a diamond, you still need to choose a setting for the engagement ring.

Here are some examples of the most popular settings today.
